What part of wedding planning was most fun for you?

Katie: Getting involved in the details – such as the look and vision we had for our location and the save the date, which I drew of Gramercy Park (where we live), making it very personal and special to us. It was so much fun to see all those details come to life throughout the planning process and especially on the day of.

Jack: The most fun part of wedding planning was designing and thinking about the flow of our event. For me, it was a lot of fun to imagine how the party would evolve through each room, and between buildings. Following Katie’s unbelievable vision for how to design each room was so great to see, especially when it came alive through her organization and execution of every candle, flower, and musician all throughout Sacred Heart… Believe me, there were lots and lots of detailed PowerPoints and pictures.

What was the easiest decision you had to make?

Katie: The dress for me! The experience at Mark Ingram was amazing! My mom, Aunt, and three best friends were all there and made it so much fun and special. My dress was the 2nd dress I tried on and I just knew! I tried on a few others that day at Mark Ingram – since, how can it actually be the 2nd dress?! – but the whole time I couldn’t stop thinking about that one dress, so we got it that day and celebrated with champagne at a nearby restaurant after.

Jack: Selecting our wedding band. Katie’s aunt made the suggestion to us after having seen them at a wedding she went to. We went to see them perform at a bar in the 40s and asked for the contract that night. They were awesome live and we knew right away they would be great!

What was the most difficult decision you had to make?

Both: Our wedding took place in an old mansion – it was someone’s home originally so it wasn’t meant to hold 200 people in one room. We didn’t want to limit the guest list since we wanted everyone we loved and cared about there, so for dinner, we had to split the guests up. Jack’s mom suggested that our parents’ friends and families be placed in one room and that our friends be in the other with us. It was perfect and so much fun! Our friends walked over to hear both our dads give speeches and we walked everyone into another room for dancing. It was fun and got people moving throughout the night, making it interesting!

Is there any piece of advice you’d give to couples in the throes of wedding planning?

Both: Make it personal. You can look back and get upset about some decisions but the ones that are true to both of you are the best decisions and ones that you won’t regret. Our ceremony and reception location, my dress, his tux, our save the date, our invitations, where and how we got ready with all our friends, and our first dance song were all very personal to us, which made the overall experience so much fun. Looking back, we are so happy with all those decisions!

Katie, what memory of Jack on your day stands out most in your mind?

Katie: Walking down the aisle and seeing Jack. Even though we had a first look, I immediately teared up when I saw him just knowing that I was about to marry my best friend. As I walked down the aisle towards him, I could actually feel all the love and support from our family and friends – it was extremely surreal. The location, setting, and ceremony made it so intimate and personal. I hope to never forget that feeling – everything felt so right.

Jack, what memory of Katie on your day stands out most in your mind?

Jack: Our ceremony, when Katie arrived at the alter and I took her hand and she looked up at me with watery eyes  – my emotions came rushing in. It was nearly impossible to keep back my own tears and emotions resulting in my voice cracking when I said her name out loud for the first time. She looked absolutely gorgeous – I couldn’t have been more excited to marry her.

Do you have any words of wisdom for couples on the day of their wedding?

Both: Our advice is to just enjoy! This is the day you have been planning for so long! No matter what, things will happen that you didn’t plan but just roll with it – most likely, only you will know and it will somehow work itself out. Not everything goes according to plan but it didn’t stop us from having the best day of our lives.
