Alex and Ryan have a lot on their plate. Both are full-time students; Alex is in veterinary school, and Ryan is in medical school, which means these newlyweds spend every free moment they have soaking up each other’s company. So, we were lucky enough to get Michele, Alex’s mom, to chat with us about her experience as Mother of the Bride. We also picked her brain for advice on wedding planning, since she put together a beautiful event for her daughter and now son-in-law.

Having planned your daughter’s wedding, is there any advice you’d give to brides-to-be when planning their own wedding?

Michele: It’s never too early to start. I did everything before the the timeline that you can rip out of a Brides’ magazine. Trust your instinct when choosing a photographer, florist, and band. Be sure to interview all of them. I knew Rebecca was perfect for my daughter. I got the vibe from Carla, the florist. When making inquires, it’s important that people respond promptly and accurately.

The venue is probably the most important and I knew before they got engaged that Blue Hill at Stone Barn would be the most perfect place. We frequent the restaurant and my husband I just knew everything would be spectacular.

If you are a control-type person, do everything yourself and ask people you trust for advice. I was glad I did not engage a wedding planner.

My daughter’s wedding was perfect in every way and I was the one who kept telling her, family, and friends, “There is no such thing as a perfect wedding.” Planning is key.

As Mother of the Bride, what moment from their day stands out the most in your memory?

Michele: Of all the weddings I have attended, including my own, their ceremony was the most beautiful, personal, touching ceremony I have ever witnessed.

What do you wish most for Alex & Ryan as they begin this new life chapter together?

Michele: I hope they will enjoy a minimum of 35 years of friendship, love, happiness, joy, while working together through the difficult times as my husband and I have.
