Blake & Jon’s Engagement, Old Chatham, NY
We went upstate recently to hang out with Blake and Jon on Blake’s family farm and to shoot their engagement session. It was a lot of fun to spend a little bit of time out of the city, and capture some portraits of them in a perfectly Americana-esque setting. We asked Blake for the scoop on how they fell in love and why they chose to do their engagement shoot at her family home. This is what she had to say:
“Jon and I first started dating in February 2011. It wasn’t till May 2011 that I took him to meet my parents at their farm house upstate. I wanted to wait until the weather got nicer. I gave him the ’50 cent tour’ of the barn filled with the horses, my father’s vegetable garden and to the chicken coop. All I wanted was for Jon to hold a chicken so I ran around the coop for a few minutes till I caught Rusty for him.
Looking back, Jon says that was the moment where he fell in love with me. Up until that point, he thought I was a typical New York City girl whose idea of a nature walk was a stroll through Central Park. When we were upstate, he realized I had much more to offer than my knowledge of the subway system. We had always dreamed of getting married there but with the location being a logistical nightmare, we figured it’d be a great idea for us to do our engagement shoot instead.
Jason was so fun to work with. We felt like we’d known him forever. Jason’s easy going demeanor paired with the love Jon and I both have for the farm house made for the ultimate engagement shoot and we can’t wait for our wedding!”
Blake and Jon will be married in September at the Museum of Natural History – and we can’t wait either!
